How to Measure Window Blinds
Before You Start
Measuring for custom blinds is simple if
you slow down and write the numbers carefully.
You will need a measuring tape, pencil or
pen, paper or phone notes, and a step ladder if the window is high.
Measure in millimetres if possible because
it gives better accuracy.
Choose Your Fit Type First
Recess Fit / Inside Frame: The blind sits
inside the window frame for a clean built-in finish.
Face Fit / Outside Frame: The blind sits
outside the frame or on the wall, giving more coverage and better light control
around the edges.
Frameless / No Frame: Use this when there
is no proper recess frame and the blind needs to be fixed on the surface around
the window.
Recess Fit Measuring Steps
Check that there is enough depth for the
blind system. The current roller blind guide mentions at least 50mm depth for
recess fitting.
Measure the inside width of the window at
the top, middle and bottom. Use the most suitable exact measurement as guided
on the product page.
Measure the height/drop from top to bottom.
Check for handles, grills, winders or
obstructions that may affect blind movement.
Choose the control side that is easiest to
reach.
Face Fit Measuring Steps
Decide where the blind will sit above or
outside the frame.
Measure the width you want the blind to
cover.
Measure the drop from the top fixing point
to where the blind should finish.
Face Fit is useful when you want better
coverage or when recess depth is not enough.
Frameless Measuring Steps
Mark the surface where the brackets can be
fixed safely.
Measure the width and drop of the area you
want covered.
Make sure the control side is clear and
easy to use.
